In a friendly, relaxed atmosphere at the Odeyalo boutique, you’ll learn the essential basics of sewing: how to thread a machine, make your first stitches, and explore simple techniques to repair, adjust, or transform your garments in a creative, sustainable way.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS COURSE IS PRIMARILY GIVEN IN FRENCH *
What you’ll learn:
• How to thread and use a sewing machine
• A few simple hand-stitching techniques
• How to repair holes or tears using accessible methods: appliqué, basic stitching, or small embroidery
• How to adjust the length or fit of a piece (like hemming pants, a sweater, or a skirt)
• How to turn an outdated or stained garment into something fresh and unique using easy creative tricks
Materials:
• Sewing machines, threads, fabrics, and basic supplies are provided
• Bring one or two garments to repair, adjust, or transform (t-shirt, pants, sweater, skirt, etc.)
• If you don’t have any, materials will be available for practice
Workshop format:
• Level: Beginner (no experience needed)
• Duration: 3 hours (1 session)
• Group size: Maximum 4 participants (personalized guidance guaranteed)
• Price: $80 per person
✨ Leave with your clothes repaired or reinvented by your own hands, new skills to keep them lasting longer and the pride of giving your wardrobe a second life!
About the workshop leader:
Rachel Fortin weaves together design, craft, and visual art. For over twenty years, she has been transforming recycled textiles into poetic stories — creating clothing, accessories, utilitarian objects, and wall pieces. Through her studio Maison Tulipe, she celebrates sustainable craftsmanship and supports local artisans in their growth, while sharing her knowledge to keep local creation and savoir-faire alive. Forgotten textiles, rediscovered gestures: creating to make less, but better. Her practice invites us to slow down, listen to materials, and imagine differently.
